Violent Crime has gone down 13% in Paul's tenure because we prioritize removing the violent elements from society.

This graph show the rate of violent crimes in Humboldt County for the last ten years and the running average (green line) of the crimes per year. The black line is the linear trend line; illustrating the direction that averages are leading to. As shown, the overall trend of violent crime in Humboldt County has been decreasing since 2003, when Paul Gallegos took office.

The decreasing trend in violent crime in Humboldt County is even more impressive when put into perspective. Since Paul Gallegos was elected in 2002, the prosecution staff and budget have been dramatically cut year after year—while the budgets and staff for all other Law Enforcement areas have increased.

The budget chart, listed in the 1000s of dollars, shows an increase to every department in Humboldt County with the exception of the District Attorney’s office. Paul Gallegos, even in the face of these staggering cuts, has been able to improve our safety.

Despite having a reduced staff and budget, the Gallegos DA’s office has maintained a better than 81% conviction rate on all trails in Humboldt County. It has been through effective leadership and a diligent work ethic that crime is down, arrests are down and Humboldt county is safer under Paul Gallegos.
